Red Oak Industries Receives State Use Approval

Indiana’s State Use Committee approved Red Oak Industries as a certified work center at its most recent quarterly meeting. Red Oak Industries became the first work center serving primarily consumers of mental health services to receive such approval.

The Indiana State Use program, a purchasing program established in 1976, encourages state, county, and other government units to purchase products and services from approved not-for-profit work centers. The purpose of the program is to provide employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Red Oak Industries is a not-for-profit social enterprise that creates lasting employment opportunities for people with psychiatric disabilities. Using a unique model, half of Red Oak Industries’ employees have a disability and half do not. This blended workforce yields both improved clinical outcomes and a stable workforce.

Red Oak Industries President, Kevin McCracken, stated “State Use approval will create many opportunities for us to serve the disabled community in Indiana.” McCracken further indicated that specific contractual arrangements will be discussed in the coming weeks.
